The usual dosage of this treatment is one capsule with a glass of water, 3 times a day before, during or up to an hour after each meal.
This medicine will only be effective if there is dietary fat in your meals. If you skip a meal or if it does not contain fats, it is not necessary to take a capsule.
This treatment must be taken in addition to a healthy diet, limited in calories, rich in fruits and vegetables and which on average 30% of the calories come from dietary fat. Your daily intake of fat, carbohydrate and protien should be devided between the 3 meals.
For better results, you should avoid eating foods containing fats betwween meals.
You must stop the treatment after 12 weeks if you have not lost at least 5 % of your initial weight.
It is important to know that taking a larger dosage of Orlistat does not bring any additional benefit.
Ingredients and composition
Active ingredient: Orlistat
Excipients: microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carboxymethyl starch type A, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium lauryl sulfate, gelatin, titanium dioxide, indigotin.
How does Orlistat work?
The primary action of this treatment is very simple to understand. Fat from your diet is broken down by enzymes, called lipases in your stomach and intestines and absorbed into your body to be stored.
Orlistat works by inhibiting this process and will stop these enzymes from working correctly.
About a third of the fat you eat is blocked by orlistat. The unabsorbed fat will pass directly through your digestive system.
Is Orlistat really effective?
Many studies have highlighted the effectiveness of this drug. Five studies over two years have shown that 37% of people taking this drug against 19 % of people taking placebo pills lost at least 5 % of their initial weight after 12 weeks of treatment. It was taken in addition to a low-calorie diet for the duration of the study.
after a year of treatment, 49% of patients under the drug and 40% of patients under a placebo lost 10% or more of their initial weight.
A study over four years has shown that 60 % of people under Orlistat and 35 % under a placebo lost at least 5 % of weight after a 12 weeks treatment. After a year of treatment, 62% of patients taking this drug against 52% taking placebo pills lost 10% or more of their initial weight.
Among those who did not have a 5% weight loss compared to their initial weight after 12 weeks, only 5% of patients taking the drug and 4% of people taking placebo pills lost 10% or more of their initial weight after one year.
After a year of treatment, 41% of patients taking this drug against 21% of patients taking placebo pills lost 10% or more of their initial weight, with a difference of 9.7lb between each group.
After four years of treatment, 21% of patients taking Orlistat against 10% of patients taking placebo pills lost 10% or more of their initial weight, with a difference of 5.9lb between each group.
Comparing the five 2-year studies and the one 4-year study, more patients treated with Orlistat or with placebo, during the 4-year study, experienced a weight loss of at least 5% of their initial weight after 12 weeks and 10% after one year.
This difference is easy to explain. The five 2-year studies include a diet of four weeks, during which patients lost more than 5lb before starting treatment.
Results of the 4-year study have also demonstrated that weight loss achieved with this treatment delayed the development of type 2 diabetes during the study. The vast majority of diabetes cases were from the subgroup of patients with glucose intolerance, representing 21% of randomized patients.
In a multicenter study conducted in the US and Canada in parallel, double-blind, placebo-controlled groups, 539 obese adolescents were randomized to receive either 120 mg of this drug or a placebo, 3 times a day for 52 weeks, in combination a low-calorie diet and physical activities.
The primary endpoint was the change in BMI between the study starting date and the end of the study. The results were significantly higher in the group who took this medication. 9.5% of patients treated with this drug against 3.3% of placebo patients lost 10% or more of their body weight after one year with an average difference of 5.6lb between the two groups.Click here to order Orlistat – Free shipping within 24hrs
